BOSTON -- A small contingent of athletes competed for the Bates women's track and field team at the all-divisions Open New Englands at Boston University, with standout performances in the triple jump, 3,000 meters and 60-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) accounted for the Bobcats' two team points for her seventh-place finish in the triple jump out of 22 athletes. Ceesay's top effort of 38 feet, 1.25 inches was her season-best mark and fourth on the day among Division III athletes.
Other Bates highlights from the meet included:
Sophomore Katherine Cook (South Burlington, Vt.) finished the 3,000 meters in 10:16.05, taking six seconds off of her previous best and moving into sixth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event.
Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) ran the 60-meter hurdles in under nine seconds for the third time in her career and the third time in two weeks in Friday's preliminary heats, finishing in 8.91 seconds, which was seventh-fastest out of 31 and second in Division III to Southern Maine's Peyton Dostie, who was also at 8.91. Hill finished Saturday's semifinal heat in 9.03 seconds to place ninth overall.
Bates will compete next Saturday at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, the last meet before the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships March 11-12 in Grinnell, Iowa.
