SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Senior captain Moriah Greenstein had three goals and seven assists, tying two Bates assists records in the process, to lead the Bates women's lacrosse team to an 18-9 victory over Sewanee in the Bobcats' season opener Thursday night.

Greenstein's (Glenmont, N.Y.) seven assists tied the team record set in 1987 by Kristina Wesslen in a game against New England College. She now has 68 in her career, tying Bates' career record with Joan O'Neill '12.

Senior Alex Briody (North Kingstown, R.I.), sophomore Annie Duke (Englewood, Colo.), junior Kailegh Maguire (Sudbury, Mass.), sophomore Teal Otley (Cumberland, Maine), senior Emma Brinkman (Rye, N.Y.) and first-year Lili Brown (Darien, Conn.) all added two goals apiece in the win.

Greenstein fed first-year Sydney Howard (Ashland, Mass.) for the season's first goal 41 seconds into the first half. The Bobcats made it 4-0 less than four minutes in with two scores by Briody and another by Greenstein.

The Bobcats (1-0) outshot the Tigers (1-2) by a 34-18 margin, 26-15 in shots on goal. Bates outshot Sewanee 22-7 in the first half en route to building a 12-3 lead at the break.

Senior two-time All-America goalie Hannah Jeffrey (Greenwich, Conn.) was credited with three saves and allowed six goals in 45 minutes of action. First-year Eliza Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) gave up three goals and saved three from scoring in 15 minutes of relief.

Sophomore Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) collected a game-high 10 draw controls. Senior Cara Cappellini (Manhasset, N.Y.) and sophomore Allison Dewey (Vergennes, Vt.) were both credited with a pair of caused turnovers, and Dewey led the Bobcats with three ground balls while also controlling five draws.

Bates controlled 22 of 29 draws and won 17 of 30 ground balls in the game.

Bates plays another non-conference road game at Wellesley on Wednesday, March 2 at 4pm.
