MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 16 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team swept seven matches on their way to an 8-1 victory over No. 25 Dickinson Sunday morning at Wesleyan University.
Bates (6-1) is off to their best start since the 2011-2012 season when they started 7-1.
Sophomore Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) is off to a 7-0 start to her season after knocking off Dickinson's Sarah Murphy 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-9) at the No. 8 position on Sunday.
Fellow sophomore Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) improved her mark to 6-1 on the season with a 3-0 (11-0, 11-9, 11-2) win at the No. 7 position over Sarah Clothier.
First-year Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) defeated Domenica Romo at the No. 2 position 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-7) and fellow first-year Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) took care of Nicole DeLuca 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-8) at the No. 4 position.
Sophomores Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) and Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) both won on Sunday as well.
Alexova survived a fierce challenge from Hedvika Suchankova at the No. 1 position, emerging victorious in five games, 3-2 (11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5). Arjoon had no difficulty at the No. 3 position, winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-1) over Stuart Lemay.
With four sophomores and three first-years in the lineup for Bates, the Bobcats' two senior captains continue to provide steady play and leadership this season. Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) won at the No. 5 and 6 positions respectively on Sunday. Dunn defeated Jaime-Leigh Edghill 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-1) and Cabot knocked off Alanis Perez 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-3).
The Bobcats get more than a month off before they visit No. 15 nationally ranked Middlebury for a crucial match on Saturday, January 7 against one of their biggest rivals in the NESCAC in the Panthers.
