Women's track and field earns high marks at home invitational

LEWISTON, Maine -- Hosting its second and final meet of the academic year, the Bates women's track and field team saw movement in five events on its all-time performance list Saturday at the Bates Invitational in Merrill Gymnasium.

With the top six places in each event earning team points, Bates scored 211 to outpace runner-up Colby (105) by 106. Husson was third with 68 and St. Joseph's was fourth with 17.

Bates highlights included:

  • Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.12 seconds, posting a preliminary time of 9.09, 0.01 off her own team record. Hill also won the 200-meter dash (26.84) and placed second in the 60-meter dash in a career-best 8.23 seconds, moving into fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event.
  • Junior Elyse Rubchinuk (Newport, N.H.) won her first career pentathlon on Friday with 2,782 points, moving into sixth place on the team's all-time performance list.
  • Sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) won the long jump with a top mark of 16-6.5. Sunil also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.78 seconds, moving into fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list. Sunil was also fourth in the 60-meter dash (8.31), moving into a tie with Lizzy Carleton for fifth place on the team's all-time performance list.
  • Bates swept the first three places in the mile, led by sophomore Katherine Cook (South Burlington, Vt.) in 5:20.55, first-year Sarah Rothmann (Andover, Mass.) in 5:21.91 and first-year Wendy Memishian (Medway, Mass.) third in 5:23.25.
  • Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) won the triple jump with a top distance of 34-11.25.
  • Senior Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine) won the 60-meter dash in 8.14 seconds and placed fourth in the 200 meters (27.50).
  • Senior captain Elena Schroeder (Clinton, Conn.) won the 400 meters in 1:02.58.
  • Sophomore Julia Nemy (San Francisco, Calif.) won the 600 meters in 1:43.79.
  • First-year Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) won the 800 meters in 2:23.33, with first-year Katie Barker (Burlington, Vt.) second in 2:29.61.
  • First-year Shelby Burns (Uniontown, Pa.) won the high jump after clearing 4-8.25.
  • Junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) placed second in the 200 meters (27.24).
  • Senior Carolyn Benner (Eddington, Maine) placed third in both the long jump (14-7.75) and triple jump (32-0.25).
  • First-year Katie Hughes (Pittsfield, Maine) placed third in both the shot put (35-11.25) and the weight throw (41-1.5). Hughes moved into ninth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the shot put.

Bates will compete on Friday at the BU Terrier Classic, followed on Saturday by the USM Invitational.
