LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates women's track and field team opened the 2016 indoor season by hosting Colby and MIT Saturday in Merrill Gymnasium, placing a strong second in the team scoring.
Bates won five events en route to 126 points, 36 points shy of MIT. Colby was third with 76.
Top-three event finishes by the Bobcats included:
- Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) placed first in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.15 seconds. Hill also came in second in the 200 meters in 26.89 seconds, moving into fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list.
- Senior captain Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine) won the 60-meter dash in a career-best 7.99 seconds, just 0.01 off of the team record time set by Angeleque Hartt in 2014. Dickinson also placed fourth in the 200 (27.53).
- Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) won the triple jump in 35-4.5.
- Sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) finished second in both the long jump (17-1.25) and high jump (5-0.25). Sunil's fourth-place time of 9.75 seconds in the 60 hurdles puts her in fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list.
- Junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) placed second in the 400 meters in 1:02.80, while first-year Andrea Russo (Cheshire, Conn.) was third (1:06.29).
- First-year Wendy Memishian (Medway, Mass.) was second in the 800 meters (2:29.28).
- Sophomore Katherine Cook (South Burlington, Vt.) placed second in the 3,000 meters (10:38.91).
- First-years Sarah Rothmann (Andover, Mass.) and Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) were second and third in the 1,000 meters, respectively, with identical times of 3:07.97.
- Senior captain Elena Schroeder (Clinton, Conn.) was third in the 600 meters (1:47.66).
- Junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) took third place in the mile (5:11.05).
- Senior Katharine Wick (Hillsborough, Calif.) became the fifth woman in team history to clear 10 feet in the pole vault.
- Bates won the 4x200 relay, with Dickinson, Markonic, first-year Yeymi Rivas (Richmond, Calif.) and first-year Sarah Shoulta (Waterville, Maine) finishing in 1:49.19.
- Bates won the distance medley relay in 13:03.09, run by Memishian, Eickhoff, Rothmann and Wilson.
Bates stays at home for its second and only remaining home meet of the year next Saturday, hosting the Bates Invitational.
