LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 18 Bates women's squash team won their second match in a row on Wednesday, defeating No. 27 Mount Holyoke 8-1 at the Bates Squash Center.
Senior co-captain Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) won her seventh consecutive match as she quickly dispatched of Ann Wong at the No. 6 position 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-2).Â
Bates' depth was on display with Blair Weintraub '18 (New York, N.Y.) and Hannah Conner '18 (Groton, Mass.) winning at the 8th and 9th positions respectively. They both swept their opponent 3-0 in their victories.
Junior co-captain Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) swept Catherine Ryan at the No. 5 position 11-4, 11-3, 11-5. Fellow junior co-captain Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass) tallied a sweep of her own at the No. 7 position, defeating Rose Minichiello 11-1, 11-4, 11-3Â
First-year Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) clinched the win for the Bobcats with an 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 sweep of Allison Shilling at the No. 2 position. First-year Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) held strong at No. 1. She swept Brandy Williamson 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.
The most dramatic match of the night came after Bates had already clinched the victory. Molly Brooks '19 (Charlottesville, Va.) defeated Lessly Portillo 3-1 (11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 15-13) to conclude the evening in the only non-sweep of the night for either side.
Bates (3-6) heads to Amherst College on Saturday to take on George Washington in the Pioneer Valley Invitational at 6:00 p.m.Â
