Box Score

LEWISTON, Maine – Senior Dakota Donovan, junior Leah Humes, sophomore Ana Urbina, and first-year Julia Rosen each scored goals as Bates College women's soccer bested Maine Maritime Academy, 4-0, on Wednesday night at Garcelon Field.

The Bobcats (5-2-0) tallied two goals in the first half and tacked on another two scores in the second period to pull away from the Mariners (2-5-0).

Rosen (Springfield, Ill.) opened the scoring for the hosts in the 28th minute as she controlled a square ball from junior Caitrin Griffin (Geneva, Ill.) and slipped a shot past the MMA goalkeeper for her third goal of the season.

Bates doubled its advantage in the 37th minute as Humes redirected a cross from Dononvan (Marblehead, Mass.) to the turf and into the back of the net. Humes notched her first goal of the campaign on the play while Donovan charted her second assist of 2014.

Donovan recorded her third goal of the year just over 30 seconds into the second half as she gathered a pass from Rosen and placed a shot inside the right post. With the assist, Rosen increased her team-leading point total to nine.

Urbina (Bow, N.H.) concluded the game's scoring in the 75th minute as she moved from the left side of the pitch towards the center, evading multiple players as she made her run, and shot from just outside the penalty area and into the goal for her second strike of the season.

Bates first-year goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) stopped four saves in the shutout for her first career win. Mariner senior goalie Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) made 11 saves in the loss.

For the game, Bates held advantages in shots (35-4), shots on goal (15-4), and corner kicks (11-3).

A crowd of over 300 fans enjoyed the contest as the Bobcats welcomed a number of area high school teams for their "Maine High School Night."

Next, Bates plays at Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m. while Maine Maritime plays at Johnson State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
