Bowdoin answered with a four-run outburst, starting with the leadoff single from Griffin. Katie Gately reached on a single to center, and the Polar Bears loaded the bases as O'Toole walked. With a runner on second following a leadoff double by Julia Geaumont, Collins' single up the middle allowed Bowdoin to take the 9-1 victory.
Junior Kelsey Freedman (Falmouth, Maine) started in the circle for Bates, allowing seven hits with four walks and a strikeout. Junior Brenna Callahan (Milton, Mass.) finished out the game with three hits and one strikeout against 14 batters.
