HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates softball team hit three home runs off of Trinity starter Hannah King, including the first two of junior Brenna Callahan's career, but the host Bantams still posted a 12-3 victory in five innings on Monday, to complete a three-game NESCAC East Division series sweep.

Trinity (6-16, 4-5 NESCAC East) won the first two games of the teams' series on March 29, but weather conditions that weekend forced the teams to make up the final contest today.

Bates had hits in each inning, six in total, four of which went for extra bases.

Callahan (Milton, Mass.) ripped solo home runs to dead center field in each of her at-bats on the day, leading off the third and fifth innings. They are the first two extra-base hits of her career, in 69 career at-bats. Callahan only became an every-day starting position player, in addition to her pitching duties, this season.

Senior captain Alayna Garbarino (Reading, Mass.) became the sixth Bobcat to homer this season when she jumped on a two-out offering by King, for her first round-tripper since 2012.

Garbarino and Callahan were both 2-for-2 on the day, while sophomore infielder Alex Eliopoulos (Akron, Ohio) was 2-for-3 to account for Bates' other two hits.

But while Bates was hitting the ball effectively, things didn't go as well when the Bantams had their turns at bat. Trinity collected 12 hits in four frames and took advantage of five Bates errors and six wild pitches. Abigail Ostrom was 2-for-4, including a three-run triple, with three runs and five RBIs. Elizabeth McQuaid was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Erica Correa was 2-for-3 with a home run.

Bates junior starting pitcher Kelsey Freedman (Falmouth, Maine) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) on five hits and three walks in 1.2 innings. Callahan relieved her with two outs in the second and was charged with four runs, all earned, on seven hits in 2.1 innings.

King (5-9) earned the complete-game win, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four.

Bates (3-10, 1-4 NESCAC East) will play on its home field for the first time this season tomorrow, hosting UMaine-Farmington in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30pm.
