MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- On the same day their Bates alpine skiing teammate, Emily Bamford, raced in the women's slalom in the Sochi Olympics, Anne Rockwell finished 13th and Emily Hayes placed 15th to lead the Bobcats in the slalom on the first day of the NCAA East Regional Championships Friday.
With only one run counting in the women's standings on Friday, Rockwell's (Greenville, Maine) first run of 51.51 seconds wound up 13th-fastest among 71 women, while Hayes' (Natick, Mass.) first run of 52.04 put her in 15th. Junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Larkspur, Calif.) did not finish her second run.
On the men's side, Bates had four finishers, led by sophomore captain Chris Bradbury (Norwich, Conn.) who was 37th out of 74 in a two-run combined time of 1:42.80. First-year Charlie Klein (Ross, Calif.) was close behind in 39th (1:43.07), and sophomore Cody Bullen (Newry, Maine) rounded out the team's scoring in 48th (1:44.25).
With one day left in the carnival, Bates' Nordic and alpine ski teams have a combined 210 points, seventh most among 15 teams.
