Caroline Thomas '09 scored nine goals with two assists in this weekend's two games.

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore Jennifer Calver, senior CJ Yanofsky and first-year Rachel Romanowsky combined for 15 goals and 7 assists as No. 12 Trinity College prevailed over Bates College 19-13 in a NESCAC women's lacrosse game Sunday at Campus Avenue Field.

Calver (Barnard, Vt.) scored six times for the Bantams (4-2, 3-0 NESCAC), who won their second conference game in as many days. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.) added five goals with two assists, while Romanowsky (Rye, N.Y.) handed out four assists to go with her four goals. First-year Caitlin Irvine (Westwood, Mass.) also scored a hat trick, while sophomore Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.) also scored.

Junior Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) scored four goals with an assist for Bates (3-4, 1-3 NESCAC), giving her nine goals and two assists for the weekend. Thomas leads the Bobcats with a career-high 23 goals. Senior Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomores Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine) and Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) scored two goals apiece. Sophomore Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) and first-years Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) and Emily Howe (Carlisle, Mass.) all scored as well.

Trinity raced out to a 3-0 lead, with successive goals by Romanowsky, Calver and Yanofsky, and the Bantams never relinquished the lead. After a free-position goal by Gross and an unassisted tally by Thomas closed the gap to 4-2 in the 14th minute, Calver scored off of the the ensuing draw control, with an assist by Romanowsky, to spark an 8-1 run by Trinity that gave the Bantams a controlling 12-3 lead in the 24th minute. Goals by Wagner and Radis closed the gap to 12-5 before halftime. Trinity dominated the opening half, outshooting Batse 25-11 and taking 12 of 18 draw controls.

Thomas's third goal of the game answered a goal by Irvine to open the second half, and a free-position goal by Howe closed the gap to 13-7 in the 40th minute of the game. But Trinity responded with its second major run of the game, with five unanswered goals -- two by Romanowsky, two by Calver and one by Yanofsky -- to boost the Bantam lead to a game-high 11 goals (18-7) with 15 minutes left in the game.

Maciewicz scored back-to-back goals in the 48th and 53rd minutes, and Bates scored six of the final seven goals in the game, including one by Wagner with 1.4 seconds left on the clock, to make the final score closer at 19-13.

Bates first-year goalie Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) made 14 saves, while Trinity senior Michelle Smith collected eight saves.

Bates will host Colby on Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. in its third home NESCAC game in five days.
