Hannah Meyer '07 played solidly at defense in her final game with the Bobcats.

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophia Kim scored two goals in the final three minutes of overtime to vault the Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team past Bates College by a 10-9 score Saturday at Campus Avenue Field.

After Bates first-year Molly Dilworth's (Yarmouth, Maine) score in the first three minutes of overtime made it 9-8 Bates, Kim tied the game at 9-9 with an unassisted goal immediately after picking up the opening draw control of the second half of overtime. Then with 1:35 left in overtime, Kim was awarded and converted a free-position shot for the game-winning score.

Kim (Annapolis, Md.) scored four goals, three of them game-tying goals and the fourth the game-winner, and added one assist for the Cardinals, who finish the regular season 8-5 overall and 5-4 in NESCAC play.

Bates ends its season at 8-7 and 2-7 in conference play. The Bobcats had their highest win total since the 2002 season.

Wesleyan finishes the regular season in a four-way tie for third place in the conference with Colby, Bowdoin and Amherst. The Cardinals came out on top of the four in the tiebreaker, and will play host to Amherst on Sunday in the opening round of the NESCAC Championship.

Sophomore Laurel Sticklor (Boxford, Mass.) and first-year Erin McCarthy (Ridgefield, Conn.) added two goals apiece for Wesleyan, while senior Cortney Tetrault (Hatfield, Mass.) notched three assists.

Bates sophomore Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) and first-years Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Molly Radis (Portland, Maine) all scored two goals apiece to lead the Bobcat offense. First-year Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) added three assists, while junior Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.) added a goal and an assist.

Wesleyan sophomore Rachel Stemerman (Williamsville, N.Y.) made nine saves for the Cardinals, who were outshot by a 26-19 margin. Bates junior Katie Nickerson (Windham, N.H.) was credited with five saves.

Wesleyan built a 4-2 lead less than eight minutes into the first period, with Tetrault assisting on three of the four goals. But the Bobcats finished the half with three straight goals by Masters, Wagner and Thomas to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. Junior Rachel Harmeling's (North Reading, Mass.) Maciewicz-assisted goal led off the second half, giving Bates a 6-4 edge.

Wesleyan scored three of the next four goals, however, with an unassisted goal by Kim capping the run with 15:16 left in regulation, tying the game a 7-7.

Neither team scored for nearly 10 more minutes, until the speedy Radis received a pass in the Bates end of the field and streaked in from the right wing for an unassisted goal, putting Bates back ahead 8-7 with 5:41 left. A free-position goal by McCarthy retied the game at 8-8 with 2:49 left in regulation and the game went into overtime.

Senior defender Hannah Meyer (Concord, N.H.) played in her last game for the Bobcats and recorded two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.
