WATERVILLE, Maine -- At the Colby College Softball Tournament on Saturday, Bates College lost both of its games, 5-2 against Brandeis and 3-1 against St. Joseph's College.
The Judges hit Bates junior starter Kristin Masino (North Arlington, N.J.) for four runs, three earned, over four innings in the first game. Sophomore Kate Brown (Portland, Maine) came on for two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.
Senior Kyla Decato (Paris, Maine) went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Bates; Masino also went 2-for-2. Senior Caitlin Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) and junior Katie Franklin (New Preston, Conn.) each had hits and scored.
In Bates' second game of the day, St. Joseph's collected 12 hits off of starting pitcher Brown, scoring three times, two of them earned. First-year Christina Knobel (Walpole, Mass.) threw 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Decato continued her perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Franklin was 2-for-4 and sophomore Beth Lakin (Tacoma, Wash.) went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Bates will play St. Joseph's on Sunday, followed by a game against Colby in the tournament's continuation.
