Bates men's soccer rallies to win in double overtime

New London, Conn.—Bates College (2-1-1, 1-1-1) rallied from a 1-0 second half deficit to defeat Connecticut College (2-3, 0-3) 2-1 in the second overtime of a tightly contested NESCAC tilt on Harkness Green Saturday afternoon.

Terence O’Connell (Greenwich, Conn.) tallied the game-winner on a direct kick from 25 yards out in the 107th minute of play. David Shear (Concord, Mass.) had tied the game at one with a penalty kick at 85:27 for the Bobcats.

The Camels took a 1-0 lead just 7:39 into the second half. Sophomore Win Robinson (Stratham, N.H.) controlled a clearing pass and served the ball for Matt Hula (Litchfield, Conn.), who lofted one over the head of the goalie for the score. But Bates rallied with the equalizer and ended the game on O’Connell’s goal in the second overtime.

Freshman Ted Lane (Portland, Ore.) made seven saves, including two point blank stops in the early moments of the second half. Sophomore keeper Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) had three stops for Bates.

The Bobcats will host Trinity College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
