WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Host Williams College prevailed in Saturday's matchup of ranked New England teams, coming from behind to defeat Bates College 2-1. It marked the second straight NESCAC game for Bates (6-3, 3-3 NESCAC) in which the opponent came from behind to win.

Rainy weather in the Lewiston, Maine, area has caused the Bobcats' scheduled Sunday matchup against Endicott College to be postponed to a date to be determined, due to poor field conditions.

Bates got in front of Williams (7-1, 3-1 NESCAC) early on when junior defender Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) tapped in a long corner kick from sophomore midfielder Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.) eight minutes into the game.

First-year forward Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) nearly made it 2-0 with two minutes left in the half, but Marino was ruled offsides.

Williams, ranked fourth in New England in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, tied the game 15 minutes into the second half, as Elise Henson banged home the rebound after Bates goalkeeper Nini Spalding (San Francisco) was unable to handle Alix Oliver's corner kick.

Junior Brittany Branch made it 2-1 late in the game, dropping a shot high and inside the left goalpost during a scramble in front of the Bates goal for the game-winning goal.

Bates defender Becky Macdonald's (Danvers, Mass.) free kick with 15 seconds remaining was saved by Williams goalkeeper Sarah Ginsburg.

Bates' next game currently scheduled is against the University of Southern Maine, at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
