LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates women's soccer opened its home schedule in dominant fashion Tuesday night, cruising to an 8-0 shutout of visiting Emmanuel College, marking the Bobcats' first win of the season and Jonny Macadam's first victory as head coach. The Bobcats seized control from the opening whistle and never looked back.

First-year Whitney Ladich (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 24th minute, finishing low to the right off a feed from junior captain Gwyn Jamison (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) to give Bates a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, fellow first-year Clara Oldenburg (Bangor, Maine) doubled the advantage, poking a shot low and central into the net in the 26th minute for her first collegiate goal. Junior Eleanor Martin (Oilville, Va.) provided the assist.

Jamison then went from provider to scorer, curling a beautiful free kick into the net from near the right end line in the 31st minute to make it 3-0 and cap a dominant first-half performance.

The Bobcats wasted no time picking up where they left off after the break. Just over a minute and a half into the second half, senior Olivia Becker (Woodbridge, Va.) buried a low, central finish off a Ladich assist to make it 4-0. Senior Rachel Suh (Seattle, Wash.) then joined the scoring in the 54th minute, converting low and central off another Jamison assist to push the lead to 5-0.

Martin took over from there, scoring twice in a span of 90 seconds. She lifted a shot high to the left off a Jamison feed in the 60th minute to make it 6-0, then added a low finish to the left just over a minute later for her second goal of the game and Bates' seventh. Keelan Mader (Sturbridge, Mass.) earned the assist.

Ladich capped the scoring in the 67th minute, slotting a shot low to the left off an assist from Martin to complete the 8-0 final.

Bates sophomore goalkeeper Brady Jacobson (Weston, Mass.) recorded three saves, while senior goalkeeper Sydney Litney (Schaumburg, Ill.) entered in the 78th minute and helped preserve the shutout.

The Bobcats dominated offensively, out-shooting Emmanuel 19-3 and putting 13 shots on goal compared to three for the Saints.

Bates returns to NESCAC action Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to Clinton, N.Y., to take on Hamilton at 11 a.m.
