BEVERLY, Mass. – The Bates College women's soccer team handed Endicott College its first home loss in nearly a year on Sunday, coming from behind to beat the Gulls 2-1 in a non-conference makeup game at Endicott Stadium.
Endicott College saw its 12-game unbeaten streak come to an end at the hands of Bates College, who scored the final two goals of the non-conference game to beat the Gulls, 2-1, Sunday on Senior Day at Endicott Stadium.
Endicott's 12-game unbeaten streak also came to an end. Endicott lost to Williams on Nov. 10, 2004 in the NCAA Tournament.
Bates improved to 10-3-0 (5-3-0 NESCAC) with the victory while Endicott fell to 11-3-1.
Paula McGinn gave the Gulls an early 1-0 advantage on a through ball from Caitlin D’Amario. McGinn walked in alone at the 41:13 mark and blasted a goal to the lower left corner. That was the last time Bates goalie Nini Spalding (San Francisco) was beaten, however, as the Bobcats turned up the pressure immediately following the Endicott tally.
Mary Bucci (Norfolk, Mass.) rang a shot off the post at the 35:10 mark and less than one minute later the contest was knotted at 1-1 when Jesse Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass.) converted a shot from in front of the penalty box that beat goaltender Tina Loguidice.
Sophomore midfielder Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.) then recorded the game-winning goal off of an indirect kick from junior defender Becky Macdonald (Danvers, Mass.), 2:46 into the second half after Loguidice was whistled for holding the ball too long.
Loguidice made 11 stops in the game. Spalding made four saves.
Bates plays its final regular season match at Colby College on Saturday.
