BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bates women's golf junior
Isabelle Meltzer led the way for the Bobcats over the weekend at the Bowdoin Invitational, tying for 36th place in a field of 86 competitors at Brunswick Golf Club.
Meltzer (Summit, N.J.) shot a 76 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday to pace Bates, as the Bobcats tied for 11th place in the field of 14 schools. She tallied a pair of birdies on Saturday and finished at three over par. She was 10 over for the tournament, five strokes back of a top-20 finish.
Two other Bobcats also finished in the top 50. Competing as an individual, senior captain
Mehar Nijjer (Chandigarh, India) tied for 49th with teammate
Rebecca Kriegsman '30 (Ashland, Mass.) and three others.
Like Meltzer, Nijjer shot a 76 on Saturday, experiencing a bit of a roller coaster of a round, as she birdied six holes and bogeyed nine, with only three pars. She shot an 82 on Sunday to finish 12 over par for the tournament.
Kriegsman had basically the opposite experience of Meltzer and Nijjer, struggling during the opening round before breaking through on day two. She shot a 10-over-par 83 on Saturday; then bounced back with the lowest round of the tournament for the Bobcats, a two-over par 75 on Sunday. She finished her first college tournament with four birdies.
The Bobcats are back in action this Saturday and Sunday when they head to Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, Vt. for the George Phinney Classic.
