Baseball wins sixth straight with come-from-behind 7-5 victory over Husson

The Bobcats improve to 16-3 on the season

LEWISTON, Maine -- A late-game rally highlighted by a go-ahead Keagan Ryan RBI single pushed Bates baseball to a 7-5 victory over Husson Wednesday at Leahey Field.

The Bobcat offense came to life in the late innings, putting up five of their seven total runs in the sixth inning or later. Ryan's (Salem, N.H.) go-ahead hit capped off a three run eighth inning for Bates, as the junior captain later scored on a wild pitch to give the Bobcats (16-3) a two-run lead. Joe Yoxall (Dallas, Texas) came through in the clutch, tying the game on a double to right field. The senior second basemen had two runs batted in on the day, finishing with a 1-3 game at the plate.

Gibby Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine), helped to lead the Bates offense with one hit and two walks in five plate appearances. The senior is hitting a remarkable .400 on the season, and has been a consistent spark plug at the dish for the Bobcats.

Designated Hitter Henry Prince (McLean, Va.) got the offense going for Bates, roping a single down the line to score the first runs of the game. The junior drove in two runs in four at bats.

First-year Liam Garrett (Westfield, N.J.) tied the game for Bates in the bottom of the sixth, beating out an infield single to third base, and Yoxall followed with a walk to drive in another.

It was a day for the whole pitching staff for Bates, as head coach Jon Martin called on six pitchers to secure the win. Junior Theo Zacharia (Manhasset, N.Y.) gave the Bobcats a three-inning start, allowing two earned runs.

Henry Kolani (Tarrytown N.Y.) did his job in relief, getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth inning. The junior recorded 2.1 innings of one-run ball. The game was closed out by sophomore Charlie Cariello (Bedford, N.H.), who slammed the door and notched his third save of the season. Sophomore Ezra Pate (Baton Rouge, La.) and first-year Joe Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) also combined for 2.2 innings of two run ball, bridging the gap for Bates.

Bates baseball returns to action this weekend for a rivalry series against Colby, as they welcome the Mules to Leahey Field on Friday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
