Men's outdoor track and field competes at Tufts Spring Invite

SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- The Bates men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Tufts Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday, turning in some strong performances in preparation for this week's Maine State Championship.

Meet Highlights
  • Senior captain Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) led a 1-2 Bates finish in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 1:53.02. Junior Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) was the runner-up in 1:53.08. Sophomore Nate Roberts (Summit, N.J.) and junior Callahan Porter (Chester, N.J.) both also finished in the top eight, with Roberts taking fourth in 1:54.26 and Porter winning his section and placing seventh overall in 1:56.08.
  • Roberts was the runner-up in the 1500 meters in 3:53.16, good for 10th on the Bates all-time performance list. Tejeda came in fifth in 3:54.24.
  • First-year Nick Walker (Winchester, Mass.) won the 5,000 meters in 14:41.09.
  • Junior Evan Berthiaume (East Greenwich, R.I.) took third in the 200 meters in a personal-record time of 21.96 seconds, good for a tie for sixth on the Bates all-time performance list, and first-year Briggs Catino (Rye, N.H.)  placed eighth in 22.20 seconds, ninth all-time at Bates.
  • Junior Daniel Cassata (Annandale, Va.) placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-record time of 9:38.57 and junior Liam Thomson (Arlington, Va.) was fifth in a personal-record time of 9:39.72.
  • Senior Aydan Gedeon-Hope (Norton, Mass.) placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.04 seconds and Catino won his section in the 100 meters in 11.25 seconds on his way to 13th place overall in the field of 60 athletes.
  • Catino, Gedeon-Hope, Berthiaume, and senior captain Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.) took third in the 4x100 relay in 42.26 seconds, good for eighth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Senior captain Carson Moellering (Natick, Mass.) placed sixth in the decathlon with a career-best point total of 5,743 points, good for 10th on the Bates all-time performance list.
The Bobcats host the Maine State Collegiate Championship this Friday and Saturday at Russell Street Track & Field.
