BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates women's tennis team faced No. 10 Bowdoin on Saturday in NESCAC action at the Maine Pines Indoor Racquet Center, with the Polar Bears coming away with a 7-0 decision.
Bowdoin (4-3, 3-0 NESCAC) secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
Iris Westmoreland and
Emelyn Harris fell 6-0 at No. 1, while
Grace LaFountain and
Isabella Saul (No. 2) and
Lia Swire and
Hannah Farber (No. 3) each dropped 6-2 decisions.
In singles, the Bobcats were led by Farber's extended battle at No. 5. After taking the opening set 6-3, the first-year pushed Bowdoin's Naomi Williams to a match tiebreak before falling 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) in the closest contest of the afternoon.
Westmoreland competed at the top spot, dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Isabella Hartung. Saul (No. 2) fell 6-0, 6-2, and Harris (No. 3) was edged 6-0, 6-3. Swire (No. 4) dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match, while LaFountain (No. 6) fell 6-0, 6-1 as Bowdoin completed the sweep.
Bates (2-9, 1-4 NESCAC) stays on the road for its next action, a visit to No. 37 Colby next Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
