HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates women's basketball junior guard
Sarah Hughes is the NESCAC Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) started her week with 10 points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists, and a game-high three steals in a 69-49 win over Trinity on Friday. Then she followed that up with a season-high 19 points on 8-12 shooting in Sunday's win over Wesleyan. Hughes played the role of closer, scoring 10 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter and hitting the eventual game-winning shot from the baseline with 37 seconds to go. She later made two free throws to ice the 65-61 win over the Cardinals.
This is the second NESCAC Player of the Week award of Hughes' career. She also earned the honor in November of 2024. Hughes is currently second on the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game, second in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game, and leads Bates in assists (53) and steals (24) this season. Hughes is also the best shooter on the Bobcats to date, as she currently sports a team-best field goal percentage of .468.
The No. 12 nationally ranked Bobcats (20-2, 7-1 NESCAC) are back in action this Friday when they visit Connecticut College for a 7 p.m. tip.
