BOSTON, MEDFORD, Mass., and BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's indoor track and field team had a busy weekend, competing at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, and sending athletes to the Tufts Cupid Challenge and Bowdoin's Lynn Ruddy Invite on Saturday.
Valentine Invitational Highlights
- Senior captain Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) broke his own school record in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:06.73.
- Junior Evan Berthiaume (East Greenwich, R.I.) set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.14 seconds, good for second in his section and 24th overall out of 119 collegiate runners at the meet.
- First-year Briggs Catino (Rye, N.H.) also placed second in his section in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in 22.46 seconds. Catino's performance puts him seventh all-time at Bates in the event.
- Senior captain Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.) recorded a personal-record time of 49.39 seconds in the 400 meters, good for 29th place out of 112 collegiate runners at the meet and third on the Bates all-time performance list.
- Junior Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) put up an automatic qualifying time for the New England Division III Championships of 2:28.59 in the 1,000 meters, good for sixth on the Bates all-time performance list in the event.
Tufts Cupid Challenge Highlights
- First-year Nick Walker (Winchester, Mass.) automatically qualified for New Englands with 14:58.29 in the 5,000 meters, good for fifth place out of 52 runners at the meet.
- Sophomores Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) and JJ Rocha (Cumberland, R.I.) both put up provisional qualifying times in the 5K for New Englands, crossing the finish line in 15:08.66 and 15:23.62, respectively.
Lynn Ruddy Invite Highlights
- Sophomore Ryan Glaser (Rockport, Maine) won the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-record toss of 57-3.5 (17.46m). Sophomore Henry Hood (Hinsdale, N.H.) placed second to Glaser in the field of 12 throwers with his personal-record mark of 53-11.25 (16.44m).
- Junior Hayden Yuzon (Glen Rock, N.J.) placed second in the 60-meter dash in 7.10 seconds, good for seventh on the Bates all-time performance list in the event.
- Sophomore DJ Mason (Naperville, Ill.) won his section and was second overall in the prelims of the 60 meters with a time of 7.16 seconds, breaking a tie for 10th on the Bates all-time performance list. Then he took fourth in the final in 7.18 seconds.
- Sophomore Jeff Vidou (Cornish, N.H.) won his section and placed fifth overall in the 200-meter dash with a personal-record time of 23.85 seconds.
- Senior captain Reuven Frye (Montclair, N.J.) won his section and placed fifth overall in the 600 meters in 1:28.65.
All three meets were non-scoring meets. The Bobcats are back in action this Saturday when they head to Colby for the Mules Tune-up.
