Men’s Soccer Takes Down Defending NCAA Champion Amherst, 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. -- Bates men's soccer delivered a statement win on Saturday, shutting out defending NCAA champion and No. 13 nationally ranked Amherst, 3-0, in NESCAC play. The victory marks the Bobcats' first road win over the Mammoths since 1992.

Senior captain Lane Foushée opened the scoring in the 38th minute (37:20), finishing a feed from fellow senior Tomas Alberola to give Bates the early lead.

The Bobcats struck twice more in the second half to put the match out of reach. Junior captain Noah Greiff doubled the advantage in the 56th minute (55:47), assisted by senior Wilson Smith, who then added a goal of his own just seven minutes later (62:56).

Bates held a slight edge in shots, 13-12, including an 8-4 advantage on target. Sophomore goalkeeper George Nassar recorded the shutout with four saves.

The Bobcats (5-1-1, 2-1-1, NESCAC) continue their road swing Tuesday at Husson in non-conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
