LEWISTON, Maine – Sophomore Eleanor Martin scored twice to lead the Bates women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over UMass Boston Saturday, keeping the Bobcats unbeaten in non-conference play. With the win, Bates improves to 3-1, while the Beacons (3-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
Martin wasted no time, finding the back of the net just over a minute into the match (1:09). Sophomore Gwyn Jamison sparked the play by dribbling down the left wing and sending a cross that landed perfectly for Martin to finish.
The sophomore striker struck again only seconds into the second half (45:26), converting off a free kick delivered by senior Kylie Musante to double the Bobcats' lead.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Litney anchored the defense with six saves, earning the clean sheet. Bates outshot UMass Boston 19-13, including an 8-6 edge in shots on target.
