LEWISTON, Maine – The No. 8 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team rolled to a 7-0 victory over Husson University Saturday afternoon at Campus Ave. Field, improving to 5-0 on the season. The Bobcats are 5-0 for the first time since starting the 1983 campaign with a 7-0-2 mark.
Lilly Hogan (So.) opened the scoring late in the first quarter, and the Bobcats never looked back, adding two goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Bates struck twice more in the third, highlighted by
Sophia Cordoni's (Fy.) third goal of the season, before capping the win with two fourth-quarter tallies.
Cordoni is tied with
Elsa Copeland (So.) for the team-lead with three goals through five games. Copeland,
Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg (Sr.),
Sophie O'Sullivan (Jr.),
Lucy Norris (Sr.), and
Ciara Geraghty (Fy.) also each found the back of the cage.
Emma Queen (Sr.), and
Ali Apigian (Fy.) chipped in assists.
Goalkeepers
Ava Donohue (30:00) and
Kaili Jacobsen (30:00) combined for the shutout with Donohue (5-0) earning the goalkeeping decision. Bates outshot Husson 19-2 and held a 9-1 edge in penalty corners. The Eagles drop to 0-2 on the year.
The Bobcats now remain idle until next Saturday, Sept. 20, when the garnet and white hosts No. 10 Wesleyan at 11 a.m. in NESCAC play.
