VANCOUVER, B.C.-- The Bates swimming and diving program has been recognized for their success both in the pool and in the classroom by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The women's team and the men's team were both named Scholar All-America Teams, while seven Bobcats earned individual Scholar All-American accolades.
Bates women's swimming and diving achieved a team GPA of 3.50 during the spring semester while the men's team checked in with a 3.72 GPA. To qualify for Scholar All-America Team recognition, teams had to earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2025 semester.
To qualify for First Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
On the women's side, sophomore
Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine) and senior captain
Stephanie Tropper (Solon, Ohio) were recognized as CSCAA First Team Scholar All-Americans. For Palmer, this marks her second-straight selection to the First Team.
For the Bates men, junior
Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.), sophomore
Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.), first-year
Nate Oppenheim (Easton, Conn.), junior
Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.), and sophomore
John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) were named CSCAA First Team Scholar All-Americans. Cory, Johnson, Somridhivej, and Weigel are repeat Scholar All-American honorees.
Over 2,700 swimmers and divers were named to the Scholar All-American Team for the 2024-25 season while 763 teams from 432 institutions have been selected as Scholar All-America Teams for the Spring 2025 semester.
