LEWISTON, Maine -- Six Bobcats representing the Bates College field hockey and women's rowing programs have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Women's At-Large Academic All-District® Team, announced Tuesday.
Anna Cote,
Maria Femia, and
Amanda Zerbib from the field hockey, along with
Megan O'Donnell,
Olivia Szachta,
Sarah Wallace from women's rowing, have each earned recognition on this elite list.
Cote, one of 90 Bobcats named a Senior-Scholar, collected a grade-point average of 3.67 as a biochemistry major. The resident of nearby New Gloucester ends her collegiate career as a four-time selection to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, along with three appearances on the NESCAC Fall All-Academic team.
One of just 16 players in all of NCAA Division III this fall to earn First Team All-America status, Cote becomes just the second two-time All-American in Bates field hockey history. She received NFHCA Second Team All-American recognition in 2023.
Cote led the Bobcats in points this season with 32. She scored a team-high 13 goals, including eight game-winners. The senior also dished out a team-high six assists. Her 13 goals are the most for a Bobcat field hockey player in one season since
Jane Davis '88 scored 14 goals in 1987. She was also named to the
NFHCA Division III Senior Team.
Femia, a psychology major, earns All-District® status with a 3.82 GPA. A Bates Senior-Scholar, Maria is also a four-time honoree on the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad and a three-time member of the NESCAC Fall All-Academic team.
A second team All-Region and All-NESCAC selection, the Canton, Mass.resident tallied 15 points (six goals, three assists) at the forward position for Bates. The senior also notched a pair of game-winning goals, both in NESCAC play.
Zerbib, a senior psychology major, possesses a grade-point average of 3.86. From Larchmont, N.Y., the Senior-Scholar locked down three NESCAC All-Academic honors, along with a quartet of selections to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
Amanda was also named second team All-Region and All-NESCAC. The team captain anchored a Bates defense that stopped 18 Middlebury penalty corners in the NESCAC semifinals on their way to the biggest win in program history. Zerbib dished out the first four assists of her career this year, two coming in NESCAC play, and two coming in the NCAA tournament as the Bobcats advanced to the "Elite 8" for the first time.
O'Donnell, a sophomore on the women's rowing roster, showcased a perfect 4.0 GPA as a physics and earth & climate sciences double major. Also named to the All-NESCAC Academic squad, the Wayland, Mass. resident rowed in the second varsity eight, which qualified for the NCAA Championships last month in West Windsor, N.J.
Szachta, a senior psychology and mathematics double major, recorded a grade-point average of 3.86 to qualify for this list. A Bates Senior-Scholar, Olivia is also a three-time member of the NESCAC All-Academic team and a three-time College Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar Athlete.
Hailing from Duxbury, Mass., Szachta rowed in the sixth seat of the first varsity eight for the Bobcats at last month's NCAA Championships, earning a bronze medal, as the Bates women's rowing team took fourth place out of eight schools. Olivia was also a Second Team All-NESCAC pick this spring.
Wallace debuts as an All-District® member with a 4.0 grade-point average. The sophomore English major also landed a spot on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic roster. From Fairfield, Conn., the first-year coxswain appeared in six races for the Bobcats, with three coming with the first varsity four.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes At-Large honorees in five divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and the College Division.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure. The College Division Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) governance structure.
