Resnick finishes in top 10 as men's golf ties for sixth at NESCAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- First-year Sean Resnick tied for eighth place out of 49 competitors to lead the Bates men's golf team to a tie for sixth place overall at the three-round NESCAC Men's Golf Championship, held Friday through Sunday at Taconic Golf Club.

Resnick (Walpole, Mass.) concluded an impressive rookie campaign by shooting rounds of 72, 75, and 79, finishing tied with six other players at 13 over par for the tournament. He completed Sunday's final round just four strokes back of a tie for second place and nine strokes back of first.

As a team, the Bobcats finished tied with Williams for sixth place at 76 over par. They were just six strokes back of fifth-place Middlebury. Amherst won the title at 44 over par.

Resnick was the low scorer for Bates each of the first two rounds. But on Sunday, senior captain Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) led the way in tough conditions, shooting a 78 to move up seven spots in the field to a tie for 35th.

Overall, sophomore Charlie Weinman (Rye, N.Y.) was Bates' next-best finisher, tying for 22nd place at 22 over par. Junior Henry Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) was one stroke behind Weinman in a tie for 27th place.

The par-71 Taconic Golf Course got harder each day, as the field averaged a score of 76.88 on Friday, 78.27 on Saturday, and 81.08 on Sunday.

As a team, the Bobcats recorded the second-most birdies in the field with 30, behind only conference champion Amherst (32). But the Bobcats also recorded the second-fewest pars (125), the third-most bogeys (90), and the third-most double bogeys or worse (25). The Bobcats were lights out on par 5s, shooting six under par, third-best in the field. But they struggled on par 4s at 93 over par, third-worst in the field.

The NESCAC Championship is the final tournament of the season for the Bates men's golf team.
