SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Bates women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 33 nationally ranked Skidmore College Friday morning at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Bobcats put up a fight but ultimately fell short in all three matches. At the No. 1 spot,
Isabella Saul and
Iris Westmoreland battled but were defeated 6-3 by Konika Dhull and Grace Truong. The No. 2 duo of
Elise Hepburn and
Olivia Gidlow put together a competitive performance but came up short, 6-4, against Beilynn Geiss and Ella Provost. In the closest doubles match of the day,
Ava Lyon and
Lizzie Frekko pushed Juliette Ceas and Mia Sarzynska to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7-5).
The singles competition also proved challenging for Bates. At the No. 1 position, Westmoreland was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Dhull. Saul put forth a strong effort at No. 2 singles but fell 7-5, 6-2 to Truong. Hepburn nearly forced a third set at No. 3 singles but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to Provost.
At No. 4 singles, Gidlow fell to Geiss 6-3, 6-0, while Frekko dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 5 to Coco Prokop. Lyon rounded out the lineup at No. 6 singles, falling 6-1, 6-3 to Sarzynska.
With the loss, Bates moves to 4-6 on the season, while Skidmore improves to 3-6. The Bobcats will look to bounce back tonight at 6:00 p.m. with a visit to No. 34 RIT in Troy, N.Y.
