ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Bates junior
Ross Tejeda finished 13th out of 20 runners in the mile Friday at the NCAA indoor track and field championships, good for second team All-America honors.
Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) raced to the finish in 4:13.75, good for fifth place out of the 10 competitors in his heat. The top four runners from each heat advanced to Saturday's final, with Tejeda missing the cut by just 0.5 seconds. Nevertheless, the ninth through 16th finishers overall are awarded second team All-American status, so Tejeda earns the second All-America award of his career. Last year, he ran the 1,200-meter leg of the Distance Medley Relay as the Bobcats earned first team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Senior captain
Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) competed in the 400 meters on Friday, finishing third in his heat and 17th out of 21 competitors overall with a time of 49.47 seconds. Williams also missed advancing to the final by less than a second, and just missed out on second team All-America honors as he finished 0.13 seconds behind the 16th-place runner.
Tejeda and Williams will now prepare for the outdoor track and season, which begins a week from Saturday at the Wesleyan Swanson Invite.
