LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates senior captain
Ava James is the MWBCA Co-Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
James (Bethesda, Md.) poured in a career-high 21 points on 8-13 shooting Saturday in a 63-53 win for the No. 12 nationally ranked Bobcats over WPI in the season-opener for Bates. She hit 3-6 from three-point range, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked a pair of shots. On top of that, James did not turn the ball over in a team-high 34 minutes played.
She shares Maine Co-Player of the Week honors with the University of Maine at Farmington's Jaydn Pingree.
This is the first Maine Player of the Week award of James' career and she is the first Bates women's basketball player to pick up the honor since classmate and fellow team captain
Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) won it last February.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday evening when they visit Husson for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
