LEWISTON, Maine– No. 13 Bates College men's soccer capped off Back to Bates weekend with a 2–0 conference victory over Hamilton Sunday afternoon at Russell Street Field. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7–2–1 overall and 3–2–1 in NESCAC play, while the Continentals fall to 5–3–3 (1–3–3 NESCAC).
First-year Chris Bianco put Bates on the board in the 33rd minute. After a strong shot from sophomore Andrew Jean Baptiste was initially saved by the Hamilton goalkeeper, Bianco was perfectly positioned to bury the rebound for his third goal of the season.
The Bobcats extended their lead in the 57th minute when first-year Luke Cunniffe capitalized on a well-placed long ball from sophomore Zach Perron, finishing cleanly for his fourth goal of the year.
Bates' defense held strong throughout the match, earning its seventh shutout of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper George Nassar recorded five saves in the win. Although Hamilton held a slight edge in total shots (14–11), both teams finished with five shots on target.
The Bobcats return to action on October 11, when they travel to face Tufts at 12:30 p.m. in another key NESCAC matchup.
