MEDFORD, Mass.-- A pair of second-half goals lifted #5 Tufts University past visiting #16 Bates College, 2-0, in Saturday's NESCAC men's soccer matchup.
The Jumbos broke the scoreless deadlock in the 51st minute when senior Daniel Yanez converted a penalty kick. Tufts added an insurance goal in the 77th minute as Ethan Jett found the back of the net to seal the win.
Tufts held an 18-5 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge on target. Bates sophomore goalkeeper
George Nassar made three saves in the effort.
The garnet and white (7-3-1, 3-3-1 NESCAC) return to action Tuesday, traveling to the University of Southern Maine for their final non-conference contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
