LEWISTON, Maine– Bates women's soccer returned to the win column Wednesday night with a decisive 3-0 shutout over visiting University of Southern Maine. The Bobcats improve to 4-4-3 on the season.
Sophomore Eleanor Martin opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing a pass from first-year Zoe Mittelsteadt to give Bates the early lead.
In the 54th minute, sophomore Gwyn Jamison extended the advantage with a perfectly placed direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
Martin sealed the victory in the 89th minute with her second goal of the night, assisted by senior captain Samantha Bunar.
Junior Sydney Litney and first-year Brady Jacobson split time in goal, combining for five saves in the shutout. Litney stopped one shot and Jacobson stopped four. The Bobcats outshot USM 22-10 overall, including a 10-6 edge on target.
Bates returns to NESCAC play Saturday at 11 a.m., hosting Connecticut College on Russell Street Field for Senior Day.
