BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Junior
Ross Tejeda took
12th place out of 59 runners to pace the Bates men's cross country team against rivals Bowdoin, Colby, and Tufts Saturday at the Pickard Field Cross Country Course.
Dubbed the "CBBT" meet due to the addition of the Jumbos, the season-opener was just a 6K, as opposed to a standard 8K collegiate men's cross country race. Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 19:24.8, in a dead heat with teammate and Bates senior captain
Andrew Mottur (Rumford, R.I.), who was officially clocked at the same time as Tejeda, but ended up in 13th. Senior captain
Ben Huston (Vergennes, Vt.) took 14th in 19:24.9, just a tenth of a second back of Tejeda and Mottur. Sophomore
Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) wasn't far behind the top three for Bates, coming in 15th with a time of 19:25.2.
In his collegiate debut, first-year
Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats in 27th place with a time of 19:57.8, basically tied with teammates junior captain
Jackson Monz (Logan, Utah) and sophomore
Nikhil Chavda (Nottingham, N.H.), who were the team's displacers.
The Bobcats took third place out of the four schools competing, trailing Colby and Bowdoin, but five points ahead of Tufts.
Bates has this week off before hosting the Maine State Meet at Roy's Disc Golf in Auburn, Maine on Sept. 21.
