LEWISTON, Maine -- A pair of goals in both the first and second halves provided more than enough cushion for Amherst College as the #2 Mammoths coasted to the 4-0 road victory over Bates College Saturday in NESCAC women's soccer action.
Brooke Ingemi (Plymouth, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 25th minute (24:34) as the junior sent in her first of the year, courtesy of a double assist by Abby Schwartz (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Patience Kum (Takoradi, Ghana). Ella Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) made it 2-0 Amherst a little over 10:00 later (35:50) when the junior's corner kick attempt glanced off a Bates defender and into the net for her first of the season.
Kum accounted for both scoring efforts in the second stanza, knocking home her second (63:16) and third (64:25) tallies of the year just 1:09 apart.
The Mammoths (5-0-2, 3-0-1 NESCAC) dominated the shot column with a 21-2 advantage, including an 11-0 margin on frame.
Sydney Litney, coming in for relief of starting goalkeeper,
Ruby Reimann (73:33), made six saves in just 16:27 of action in net for the Bobcats (4-2-1, 1-2 NESCAC).
Bates will now sit idle until next Saturday, Oct. 5 when the garnet and white visits #18 Williams at 11:00 a.m.
