RICHMOND, Va. -- The Bates swimming and diving program has been recognized for their success both in the pool and in the classroom by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America. The women's team and the men's team were both named Scholar All-America Teams in June, and on Wednesday 11 Bobcats earned individual Scholar All-American accolades.
Bates women's swimming and diving achieved a team GPA of 3.69 during the spring semester while the men's team checked in with a 3.68 GPA. To qualify for Scholar All-America Team recognition, teams had to earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2024 semester.
To qualify for First Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship.

Mark Gregory (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), first-year
Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.), sophomore
Nate Pierce (Fairfield, Maine), sophomore
Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.), and first-year
John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) were named CSCAA First Team Scholar All-Americans.
The CSCAA Scholar All-America awards are the latest in a long line of academic and athletic honors for the Bates swimming and diving program. Wenger and Young capped off their Bates careers by being named Second Team College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans in April, while eight Bobcats were All-District selections. The women's swimming and diving team placed 18th in the country at the NCAA Championships in March, while the men placed 34th. 11 of the 13 athletes Bates sent to NCAAs were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans on Wednesday.
