NEW ORLEANS -- The Bates men's track and field team was honored on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their achievements in the classroom.
The Bobcats have a team cumulative grade point average of 3.57, tied for 20th highest in NCAA Division III, and good for All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. The minimum threshold to be named an All-Academic Team is a 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
In addition, five Bobcats were named USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Athletes.
Rising senior mathematics and physics double major
Calvin Capelle (Laguna Beach, Calif.), recently graduated team captain and environmental studies / history double major
Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.), recently graduated psychology major
Jacob Goff (Scarborough, Maine), recently graduated history major and team captain
James Guinee (Topsfield, Mass.), and rising senior U.S. history and classical & medieval studies major
Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) all earned this prestigious honor.
In order to be named an All-Academic athlete by the USTFCCCA, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period. And on top of that, athletes need to have finished the indoor season ranked in the top 50 in the country in an individual event, or top 35 in a relay.
