HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates first-year
George Klatsky is the NESCAC Men's Field Athlete of the week, as announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Klatsky (Falmouth, Maine) unleashed a throw of 215-11 (65.82m) to take first place in the javelin on his second-to-last attempt of the day at the Emory Spring Break Classic. The toss breaks the previous Bates post-1984 record of 203-4, set by
Tyler Harrington '19 in 2017.
Steve Ryan '83 holds the overall Bates record at 230-7, but his throw came prior to the javelin's weight being redistributed forward after the 1984 season so it would drop sooner, thus decreasing the distance on throws.
Klatsky,
a guest on this week's Bates Bobcast, is the first Bates men's track and field athlete to earn NESCAC Field Athlete of the Week since
James Guinee '24 in 2024.
