NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Bates College women's lacrosse enjoyed the sweet taste of a conference victory Saturday as the Bobcats took to the road and held off host-Connecticut College, 12-9, to secure their initial NESCAC win of the season.

Lauren Wong tallies, Bates finished the first quarter of play with a 3-2 lead. Both the Bobcats and the Camels (6-5, 2-5 NESCAC) netted three goals apiece in the second period, resulting in a slim 6-5 advantage for the garnet and white heading into intermission.
The visiting squad blanked Conn. College, 3-0, in the third, limiting the home team to just three total shots in the frame. Heading into the fourth trailing 9-5, the Camels came out firing, netting three unanswered goals in the first 2:21 of the stanza.
With the Bobcats now leading by just one score at 9-8,
Laci Raveis picked a perfect time to contribute as the first-year connected on Bates' next two goals (6:49, 1:10) to extend its lead to three (11-8) with just 70 seconds remaining in regulation, essentially sealing the victory for the visitors.
Wong, the reigning Female Bobcat of the Week, finished with a hat trick on the afternoon. Raveis, who enjoyed a team season-high seven goals Tuesday at Bowdoin, also added an assist vs. Conn. College for three points on the day.
Hanna Matthews collected a pair of goals, and
Caroline Taggart added two goals and a helper, as Bates moves to 5-6 (1-5 NESCAC) on the year.
Avery Lehman recorded a season-best 14 saves in the complete-game (60:00) win between the pipes for Bates.Â
Bates now looks ahead to Wednesday when the Bobcats visit #3 Tufts at 5:00 p.m.
