Gidlow and Anderson win at No. 2 doubles in women's tennis's 8-1 loss to No. 31 Colby

LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior Liv Gidlow and first-year Julia Anderson won at No. 2 doubles but the visiting Colby College Mules defeated the Bates women's tennis team 8-1 Sunday afternoon in NESCAC action.

Gidlow (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Anderson (Chevy Chase, Md.) teamed up for just the second time this season and rolled to an 8-4 victory over the Colby team of Michaela Landry and Isabella Suk.

The Mules (6-4, 3-2 NESCAC), ranked 31st in the latest ITA poll, were able to win the other two doubles matches, then swept the Bobcats (3-11, 1-7 NESCAC) in singles play. Bates senior captain Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) took her opponent to three sets at No. 1 singles before falling 7-5, 5-7, 0-1 (5-10) in the third-set tiebreaker.

Junior Ava Lyon (Naples, Fla.) also played well for the Bobcats, falling in three sets by a count of 2-6, 6-1, 1-6 at No. 6 singles. Anderson fell in straight sets at No. 2 singles, but both sets were close, with Colby's Sydney Landau winning 7-5, 7-5.

The Bobcats are back in action on Tuesday, April 23 when they host Endicott at 3:30 pm.
