Julia Anderson won at No. 2 doubles but the visiting Colby College Mules defeated the Bates women's tennis team 8-1 Sunday afternoon in NESCAC action.
Gidlow (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Anderson (Chevy Chase, Md.) teamed up for just the second time this season and rolled to an 8-4 victory over the Colby team of Michaela Landry and Isabella Suk.
The Mules (6-4, 3-2 NESCAC), ranked 31st in the latest ITA poll, were able to win the other two doubles matches, then swept the Bobcats (3-11, 1-7 NESCAC) in singles play. Bates senior captain
Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) took her opponent to three sets at No. 1 singles before falling 7-5, 5-7, 0-1 (5-10) in the third-set tiebreaker.
Junior
Ava Lyon (Naples, Fla.) also played well for the Bobcats, falling in three sets by a count of 2-6, 6-1, 1-6 at No. 6 singles. Anderson fell in straight sets at No. 2 singles, but both sets were close, with Colby's Sydney Landau winning 7-5, 7-5.
The Bobcats are back in action on Tuesday, April 23 when they host Endicott at 3:30 pm.
