BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bates College evened its record in a big way Wednesday as the Bobcats unleashed the offensive fury on the University New England by pouring in 20 goals in an impressive 20-8 non-conference win over the Nor'easters.
12 different players scored for the victors as Bates (2-2) reached the 20-goal threshold for the first time since a 20-1 defeat of the University of Southern Maine back on Mar. 10, 2020. UNE remains winless at 0-4 with the setback.
Bates recorded eight of the contest's first nine goals as
Madeleine Donovan's unassisted tally with 28 seconds left in the first provided the garnet and white a 9-1 lead. Four more goals in the second (including a pair from
Julia Roelofs) provided the visitors a hearty 12-3 surplus heading into intermission.
The second half proved to be a formality as the Bobcats' lead was never in jeopardy. Bates edged UNE, 8-5, over the second half to lock up the triumph.Â
Hollis Hale and
Caroline Taggert authored hat tricks to pace the victors.
Lauren Wong added two tallies and an assist for three points of her own.
Caroline Keating and
Lucy Taylor (like Roelofs) followed with two goals each in the rout.Â
Peyton Burg contributed to the win with a pair of helpers. Sydney Balotin topped UNE with four goals in the effort.
Avery Lehman moves to 2-2 in net for Bates with the victory (15:00, 1 save, 1 GA).
The Bobcats return to NESCAC action this Saturday with a visit to #20 Williams set for 12:00 p.m.Â
