GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Thirteen student-athletes from the Bates swimming and diving program will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships, to be held March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Bates women's team is sending seven athletes to NCAAs while the men's team is sending six.
- Sophomore Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) is the top seed in the country in the men's 50-yard freestyle with his school-record time of 19.66 seconds. Cory is seeded sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with his school-record time of 44.07 seconds.
- Senior captain Grace Wenger (Hanover, N.H.) is the third seed in the women's 200-yard freestyle with her time of 1:49.48 and the 12th seed in the 100-yard freestyle with her school-record time of 50.97 seconds.
- Junior Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) is the fifth seed in the women's 100-yard backstroke with her time of 55.26 seconds and the 11th seed in the 200-yard backstroke with her time of 2:01.40.
- The men's and women's teams will be competing in every relay race at this year's NCAA Championships.
- Cassily, first-year Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine), first-year Emily Kalvaitis (Darien, Conn.), and senior Margie McLeod (Durham, Maine) are seeded 16th with a time of 1:43.53 in the women's 200-yard medley relay.
- First-year Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.), sophomore Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.), first-year John Weigel (Iowa, City, Iowa), and sophomore Nate Pierce (Fairfield, Maine) are seeded 24th with a time of 1:30.34 in the men's 200-yard medley relay.
- Wenger, Kalvaitis, junior Stephanie Tropper (Solon, Ohio), and McLeod are seeded 24th in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.71.
- Weigel, Pierce, Somridhivej, and Cory are seeded 12th in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:20.71.
- Cassily, Palmer, Kalvaitis, and Wenger are seeded 13th in the women's 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:47.27.
- Johnson, Somridhivej, Weigel, and Cory are seeded 17th in the men's 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:16.98.
- Wenger, senior Natalie Young (Windham, N.H.), Cassily, and Tropper are seeded 10th in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:28.39.
- Cory, Weigel, Johnson, and senior captain Mark Gregory (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) are seeded 14th in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:37.17.
- Wenger, Young, Cassily, and Tropper will swim the final of the women's 400-yard freestyle relay for Bates and are seeded 22nd with a time of 3:28.97.
- Weigel, Cory, Pierce, and Gregory will swim the final of the men's 400-yard freestyle for Bates and are seeded 10th with a time of 2:58.55.
