GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Bates swimming and diving teams turned in three All-America performances on day one of the four-day NCAA Division III Championships, being held this year at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Sophomore
Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) led the way on Wednesday, finishing 10th in the 50-yard freestyle. He raced to the finish in the morning prelims in 20.12 seconds, earning a spot in the consolation final, where Cory clocked in at 20.18 seconds in the evening, good for second place. Cory scored seven points for the Bobcats and earned the fourth All-America honor of his career.
On the women's side, senior
Natalie Young (Windham, N.H.) earned the second All-America honor of her career, taking 16th in the 200-yard IM. She swam a morning prelims time of 2:04.79 and raced to the finish in 2:05.97 in the consolation final.
Meanwhile, the Bates women's 200-yard medley relay team of junior
Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.), first-year
Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine), first-year
Emily Kalvaitis (Darien, Conn.), and senior
Margie McLeod (Durham, Maine) finished 16th as well, with a morning prelims time of 1:44.47 and a consolation final time of 1:44.56. It's the ninth All-America honor of Cassily's career and the fifth for McLeod. Palmer and Kalvaitis become the 39th and 40th All-Americans in the women's program's history.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday morning, with prelims at 10am and finals at 6pm.
