NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine -- Senior captain
Ben Huston finished ninth out of 142 runners to lead the Bates men's cross country team to a third-place finish out of 10 schools Saturday morning at the Bates Invitational, held at Pineland Farms.
Huston (Vergennes, Vt.) recorded a time of 25:35.0 on the 8K course to pace the Bobcats. Bates scored 91 points on the day, eight points behind runner-up MIT and four points ahead of rival Bowdoin. Washington and Lee University won the meet, with four of their runners placing in the top eight.
All five of the scoring runners for the Bobcats finished in the top 25 in the field. Junior
Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) took 16th place with a time of 25:59.7 while sophomore
Nikhil Chavda (Nottingham, N.H.) was right behind Tejeda in 17th with a time of 26:03.0.
First-year
Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) and sophomore
Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats in 24th and 25th place respectively. Hoffman crossed the finish line in 26:12.6 while Logan recorded a time of 26:16.2.
Bates returns to action in two weeks when the Bobcats head to the Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 19.
