Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- A pair of Colby College goals over the final 17:11 of play pushed the Mules past visiting Bates College, 2-1, Wednesday evening in what served as the regular-season finale for the in-state NESCAC rivals.
After a scoreless first half, Bates struck first in the 56th minute (55:42) as senior
Lily Houser found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. An aggressive
Gabby Monaco (Jr.) picked the pocket of a Colby defender, before letting loose a point-blank blast that was pushed away by Mules' goalkeeper, MK Marshall (Jr.) The deflection caromed directly to Houser, who promptly one-timed a left-footed laser for the tally.
The contest would proceed to morph into the Abigail Jarvi show as the sophomore proceeded to secure the equalizer (72:49) and the game-winner (83:03) for the Mules. The game-tying effort came courtesy of a Claire Walsh (Fy.) direct kick that found the head of a charging Jarvi, marking her sixth goal of the year.
Her seventh of the campaign came on a beautiful cross from the right side by Ella Caraluzzi, which Jarvi easily deposited into the bottom left of the Bobcat cage.
Colby (9-4-2, 4-4-2 NESCAC), with the triumph, clinches the #6 seed in the NESCAC tournament and will travel to #3 Williams for this weekend's quarterfinals. Bates, which needed a victory to clinch the #8 seed, closes its campaign at 5-9-1 (2-8 NESCAC).
Ruby Reimann, playing her final game for the garnet and white, made five saves in 90:00 to close out her collegiate career. Marshall made four saves for the Mules.
