LEWISTON, Me. – Bates College volleyball faced off against Bowdoin College Friday night in Alumni Gym, ultimately falling in straight sets to the Polar Bears (23-25, 13-25, 20-25).
With the loss, the Bobcats move to an even 9-9 on the year (2-6 NESCAC), while Bowdoin improves to 9-7 (2-5 NESCAC).
Skye LeMendola concocted a double-double effort of 12 digs and 11 kills for the victors while Alison Smith provided 10 kills on 18 total attacks (three errors), resulting in an impressive .389 hitting percentage. Paige Butler and Cameron Shelly handled the Bowdoin setting duties, dishing 15 and 14 assists, respectively.
The Polar Bears dominated at the service line, landing 10 aces on the night. The aforementioned Shelly paced Bowdoin with four successful serves in the win.
Malina Young recorded 10+ kills for the second time this season, slamming 11 such efforts for the Bobcats.
Skye Higashihara compiled 17 assists on 30 team kills in the match.
Sami Kim led the squad with her 14 digs.
Bates will now host Colby College on Saturday as the Mules prepare to strut into Alumni Gym sporting an 18-1 (7-0 NESCAC) record. Start time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
