NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The Bates swimming and diving teams swept Norwich in a road dual meet on Saturday, with the Bobcats winning a combined 22 events along the way.
The Bates women's team tallied 208 points to Norwich's 53 while the men scored 164 points to Norwich's 98.
Bates Women's Highlights
- Sophomore Sarah Teng (Cherry Hill, N.J.), sophomore Emma Burke (Whitesboro, N.Y.), sophomore Lily Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), and junior Stephanie Tropper (Solon, Ohio) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:57.46. The Bobcats took the top three spots in the relay, with the team of senior Samantha Simmons (Louisville, Ky.), first-year Amber Zeng (South Windsor, Conn.), junior Talia Skaistis (New York City), and senior Natalie Young (Windham, N.H.) finishing runner-up in 1:59.50.
- Bates recorded the top four finishes in the 200-yard freestyle as first-year Cora Zuwallack (Falmouth, Mass.) winning in 2:00.37
- Senior Margie McLeod (Durham, Maine) led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 50-yard backstroke, winning in 28.42 seconds. She also took home the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.61, part of a 1-2-3-4 Bates finish in the event.
- The Bobcats also grabbed the top three spots in the 50-yard breaststroke, as first-year Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine) won in 31.30 seconds.
- Junior Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) led a 1-2-3-4 Bates finish in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 1:02.05. She also grabbed the top spot in the 100-yard IM in 1:02.87, as Bates dominated the race, recording the top six finishes.
- The Bobcats went 1-2-3 and first-year Emily Kalvaitis (Darien, Conn.) took home the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, racing to the finish 25.56 seconds.
- Young led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 56.30 seconds.
- The Bobcats also took the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke, with Tropper winning in 1:03.07.
- Burke led a 1-2 Bates finish in the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 5:30.26.
- The Bobcats grabbed the top four spots in the 50-yard butterfly as senior captain Grace Wenger (Hanover, N.H.) won the race in 26.41 seconds.
- Senior Amy Townend (Chester Heights, Pa.), first-year Sarah Van Lonkhuyzen (Rockport, Maine), Wenger, and Zuwallack won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.62. The Bobcats recorded the top three finishes in the race, with the team of first-year Sophia Clausman (Edina, Minn.), senior captain Julia Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio), Kalvaitis, and McLeod finishing second in 1:45.32.
Bates Men's Highlights
- Bates went 1-2-3-4 and senior Wil Dewey (Ithaca, N.Y.) grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.10.
- First-year John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) won the 50-yard backstroke in 24.86 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.46 seconds.
- First-year Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) prevailed in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.09 seconds. He led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.35 seconds.
- Bates grabbed the top four spots in the 50-yard freestyle, with sophomore Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.) winning in 21.96 seconds.
- Senior captain Mark Gregory (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.31 seconds.
- Sophomore Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the 50-yard butterfly, winning in 23.46 seconds.
- Junior Jaewoo Kim (San Ramon, Calif.) won the 100-yard IM in 54.85 seconds.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday morning when they visit Middlebury for a dual meet at 11am.
