MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Bates College men's soccer still seeks its first goal vs. a NESCAC foe as the Bobcats dropped a 3-0 decision Sunday on the road at #17 Middlebury College.
A Kyle Nilsson (Jr.-San Francisco, Calif.) goal in the opening minutes (4:14), followed by a pair of second-half tallies from Tyler Payne (Jr.-London, England) at 63:07 and 82:10, respectfully, accounted for all of the scoring in the Panthers' fifth win of the season (5-0-2, 2-0-2 NESCAC).
The home team slightly edged the Bobcats (2-5, 0-4 NESCAC) in the shots column, 13-12, while both squads put seven shots apiece on frame. For the second-straight game,
Cesar Hoover put three attempts on net for Bates.
Ryan Grady (Sr.-Deerfield, Ill.) gathered seven saves in the complete-game victory for Middlebury.
Trevor Hammond recorded four saves in 90:00 between the pipes for the Bobcats.
The garnet and white will sit idle until Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. when the Bobcats return to action at Trinity College (Conn.) in another conference competition.
